3DZ hosts the national reference event of the 3D printing salon in the brand new 4.0 showroom in Castelfranco Veneto (TV). The most important global brands in the 3D printing sector were present. Gianfranco Caufin: “We want to make companies aware of the advantages of this technology”.

Castelfranco Veneto, the Italian capital of 3D printing. On Thursday 29 September the walled city hosts the fourth edition of the “Salone del 3D”. The annual event dedicated to the latest news from the 3D printing world. It will take place in the new 3DZ Showroom located in Castelfranco Veneto (TV) in via dei Pini, 32. It is now a reference event in the Italian and international panorama of 3D printing. The opportunity for operators in the sector and for interested companies to see concrete examples of prototyping, rapid tooling, production of final parts and scans.

There will be products from the world's largest 3D scanner and printer brands including 3D Systems, Markforged, Formlabs, Nexa 3D & Artec 3D. Great news of this edition the presence of Formlabs FUSE 1+ 30W, one of the most innovative and fastest tools currently available on the market. During the day there will be a dozen speeches by experts dedicated to sector issues. For example, on tax incentives and industry 4.0 in reference to the world of 3D printing, as well as various testimonials from local companies who will tell how they introduced 3D printing and the advantages associated with this new production method. During the afternoon, the new showroom, a center of excellence in 3D printing, will be open to the public. The event is free, but reserved for companies. Reservations are required on the 3DZ.it website.

Additive Tour 2022

The event is also a stage of 2022DZ's ADDITIVE TOUR 3. A roadshow in stages around Italy aimed at bringing companies closer to the most advanced machinery and the best 3D technology. Other stops will be Rome 26 October, Florence 10 November, Brescia 24 November, locations close to the local 3DZ offices. There will also be other targeted events dedicated to 3DZ customers with the aim of helping them to better exploit the full potential of their 3D printer or 3D scanner, for a total of 15 events between mid-September and November.

Who is 3DZ

3DZ spa has its headquarters in Castelfranco Veneto, in the Treviso area, and other branches in Alessandria, Brescia, Arezzo, Rome. Founded in 2011, the company specializes in consulting on the adoption of 3D printing in companies and in the sale of the world's most prestigious brands of 3D printers and scanners. A reality that has reached a global dimension with the opening of 13 branches in Italy, Europe and the Middle East, capable of serving 2.700 customers with over 2.000 3D printers installed, as well as scanners and 3D software.

These are very technical products, which is why the group, which today is based on a hundred employees, has as its flagship the professionalism of its 33 technicians specialized in the management of 3D printers operating in the territory and in the most varied sectors: industrial, mechanical, aerospace, automotive, cultural heritage, education, dental, medical and jewelry.

The headquarter is spread over two floors where the latest technologies in the field of 3D printers are housed on 2.500 square meters, a sort of huge digital laboratory and showroom, where you can see the latest 3D printers produced in the world at work, from those desktop-sized to nearly the size of an automobile; and then exhibition spaces for pieces made that make the showroom a sort of expo of news on all the miracles of additive manufacturing. 3DZ printers are 4.0 certified; 3DZ offers a 4.0 digitization path by helping companies to introduce 3D printing into their production and research and development process.

Formlabs FUSE 1+ 30W

The 3D powder printer with the best ratio between quality, price and speed. Designed to maximize yield and minimize waste, the new Fuse 1+ 30W is the compact, industrial-powered SLS 3D printer.

With unprecedented speed and a full range of materials for rapid prototyping and in-house manufacturing. In addition to an effective dust containment system and simplified setup, the Fuse 1+ 30W is equipped with a powerful 30W laser that allows prototypes and final parts to be made in a single working day, and allows users to create new applications with high performance materials such as Nylon 11 CF Powder, the first carbon fiber reinforced material launched by Formlabs. A tool that can produce functional prototypes within a day or hundreds of end-use parts per week. The new Fuse 1+ 30W allows you to obtain a more uniform workflow, with a reduction in production times and an increase in efficiency.

The 3D printer to treat children's facial burns

3D printing in the service of medicine to treat severe facial burns in children. This is a pilot project conducted by the Romans Ferrari pediatric rehabilitation center in Lyon in collaboration with 3DZ. Distributor of 3D printers with headquarters in Castelfranco Veneto (TV) and other branches in Alessandria, Brescia, Arezzo, Rome, as well as 13 foreign branches. Facial orthoses were created through 3D printing, masks able to help children in the treatment of burns to the face.

Custom-made orthoses, through a 3D scanner able to obtain a perfect reproduction of the patient's face in the smallest details. Starting from this drawing, the masks to be applied to the patients' faces were created with the 3D printer. All this without being invasive on children already victims of trauma and increasing the precision of the facial prosthesis designed by perfectly tracing the boy's face.

Children with face burns are treated with the application of custom-made plates on the face itself, basically masks. Inside are added silicone devices that perform a massage on the burned area and allow better healing and scarring, especially on the grafted skin. In order to make the facial orthosis (i.e. this plate to be applied to the face) it is necessary to take an impression of the face, with which you can then create a mask, a perfect and compliant replica of the child's face. To exactly reproduce a face, the traditional method consists in modeling the face with plaster strips applied directly to the skin. A painful and annoying process, which puts a strain on already weakened skin. The child suffers a second trauma.

Romans Ferrari center

This is how the Romans Ferrari center, a pediatric re-education facility that has been dealing with severely burned, brain-injured and polytraumatized children for many years, consulted and involved the students of the Ecole Centrale de Lyon and the French branch of 3DZ. An alternative process has therefore been devised for making orthoses to be applied to the face. Instead of the plaster cast, a 3D scan of the face is made. The prosthesis is then made from scanning through a 3D printer. All without even touching the patient's face, therefore in a non-invasive and at the same time more precise way.

Artec 3D's Eva scanner was used for scanning. With this scanner, the operator makes a 3D scan of the child's face, a high-precision three-dimensional photograph. But without touching the baby's face. The scanned file is processed with the Geomagic Freeform software to create the correct mask shape. The mask is then printed positively using Formlabs' Fuse 3 1D printer: the result is a precise, accurate and personalized reproduction of the patient's face.

The pilot project was completed in the first months of 2022 with excellent results, appreciated by medical staff and patients. This is a new system that the French medical center has therefore decided to use instead of the old method with the plaster cast. “For several years we have dreamed of being able to create the mold for the treatments without having the patient undergo direct contact with the burned skin”, says Christophe Debat, director of the Romans Ferrari Center.

The collaboration between 3DZ and Romans Ferrari was also rewarded at the Global Industrie fair, the most important French event for the industrial sector.
