Inspect and Ronin Partner to Innovate and Power the Multi-Chain Market.
Multichain is an open source cross-chain router (CRP) protocol that allows users to bridge tokens between blockchain. The project was founded in July 2020 and has since changed its name to Multichain. Binance also provided $350.000 to Multichain as part of its accelerator program, and Binance Labs led a $60 million investment round. This round included the Tron Foundation, Sequoia Capital and IDG Capital.
Multichain supports more than 42 chains, including BNB Smart Chain, Fantom, and Harmony. Users can seamlessly transfer their assets between blockchain, thanks to Cross-Chain Bridges and Cross-Chain Routers. Multichain also has a governance token, called MULTI, to allow holders to participate in the future governance mechanism of the project.
Essentially, Multichain uses two methods to bridge tokens. First, it uses smart contracts to lock tokens to a blockchain and mint wrapped tokens on another blockchain. When that's not possible, it uses a network of cross-chain liquidity pools to swap tokens. Typically, all of this can be done in under 30 minutes without slippage.
Multichain supports Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) networks and a selection of networks blockchain that use different technologies such as Cosmos and Terra. Multichain also offers a similar bridging service for NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens). Projects that want to take advantage of bridging their tokens can work together with Multichain to issue them on new ones blockchain. This service is free and can be completed in less than a week.
To facilitate all this work, Multichain has a network of Secure Multi Party Computation (SMPC) nodes managed by various entities. Let's look at it in detail.
When transferring between different chains, Multichain uses a standard crypto pegging mechanism for some coins and tokens. Imagine you want to bridge BNB from BNB Smart Chain to Ethereum. Multichain will lock your BNB into a smart contract on BNB Smart Chain and then mint a pegged (pegged) BNB token on Ethereum network. This will be done at a 1:1 ratio. This option represented the original service offered by Multichain, when it operated as Anyswap.
Not all tokens can be bridged via the MPC method described above. Some tokens, such as USDC, already exist in their native forms on multiple blockchain. In this case to bridge your assets, you will need to exchange your coins.
As always, swapping requires liquidity. When you want a coin, you will have to make a trade with someone, this can happen thanks to liquidity pools. Other users can provide their tokens in the form of liquidity in exchange for a share of the transfer fees.
Users will have the opportunity to delve into captivating collections, ranging from the consolidated Axie Infinity, an icon of the sector, to emerging ones such as Genkai by CyberKongs.
