South Korea's leading television and radio network Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) enters the metaverse with The Sandbox. The company plans to open a virtual version of its iconic office building located in Seoul in the 3D virtual space. MBC will also create an immersive version of its production studios.
The metaverse is generally described as a 3D virtual space that allows people to interact with various entertainment and experiential events such as games and concerts in an engaging way.
MBC had already done an experiment last year when he launched the metaverse avatar for the TV show The Masked Talent, a derivative of his most popular show, “The Masked Singer”.
He has since launched another metaverse show, dubbed the “Avatar Singer,” a metaverse musical survival show, which uses augmented reality (AR) avatars to hide the identity of the contestants.
But now the company is expanding its presence in 3D space by bringing its famous Sangam office building into the metaverse. The company will allow The Sandbox community to use its virtual office building and production studios for various projects.
The Sandbox is working to improve the visibility of K-verse, major hub service project for K culture and Asian cultural content. The project stems from a collaboration between The Sandbox and Korean entertainment giant Cube Ent.
