THE GENOA SMART WEEK TURNS GREEN BETWEEN ESG AND GREEN JOBS, CLIMATE CHANGE AND WASTE MANAGEMENT

Innovation and environment at the center of the 9th edition of the Genoa Smart Week.

From ESG principles, new drivers for job creation, to integrated waste management at a supra-municipal level up to adaptation to the effects of the changing climate.

These are some of the issues, global and local, that will be addressed during the second day

Reducing the environmental impact is certainly one of the essential elements for a definition of a smart, sustainable and efficient city and will be the central theme of the day Tuesday 28 November  to the Genoa Smart Week, event promoted byGenoa Smart City Association and from City of Genoa with the organizational support of Clickutility Team and the patronage of Rai Liguria.

In particular, we will discuss the problems dictated by climate change, territorial management, up to job development opportunities thanks to the development and adoption of European ESG (Environmental – Social – Governance) principles by companies and public administration. So what are the strategies, technologies and actions necessary to establish a positive role for the city in the changing environment?

Surgeries

The day's work includes, among others, the intervention of Cima Foundation which will introduce the topic of climate change in particular with a photograph on the project regional strategy for adaptation to climate change (SRACC) for Liguria. The plan, which also sees the collaboration of Department of Architecture and Design of the University of Genoa and Service Center for Western Liguria, has the goal of definise the actions and interventions necessary to reduce the impacts of climate change on the Ligurian territory. Not only that, the SCRACC provides for the definition of climate change scenarios for the Liguria Region, the identification of the main risks generated by climate change and finally defidefine the matrices that relate specific risks-objectives-adaptation measures for the regional territory.

Another extremely interesting topic of the circular economy is more effective management of the waste cycle. In this regard, the event will host the intervention ofARLIR – Ligurian Regional Waste Agency, the recently established body which will have the task of building and managing urban waste plants, regulating local and plant services in compliance with the system defiestablished by the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment (ARERA).

Focus on ESG principles

The working day of the Ligurian event, dedicated to the environment, will end with a focus on ESG principles in relation to the labor economy with an intervention by the Sustainable Development Foundation. ESG, promoted by European Commission, have the aim of encouraging and developing investments towards those organizations that they have introduced into theirs business model  environmental and social factors such as equity and inclusion and transparency in its corporate governance. With an impact of approx 50 trillion dollars, ESG represent a new driver for the labor market.
