Innovation in work organization: EssilorLuxottica introduces 'short weeks' in the factory

The president and CEO of EssilorLuxottica comments and introduces a great innovation and revolution in Italy: the short week.

EssilorLuxottica and the national and local trade union organizations have signed the new Supplementary Company Contract for the three-year period 2024-2026 intended for almost 15.000 employees of the Group's Italian factories.

The short week agreement contributes to designing a new frontier of work organization in Italy, inspired by principles of equity and inclusion. It arises from a process of constantly listening to the needs of the different communities of employees who give life to the company to expand work-life balance opportunities even within the factories. This agreement reaffirms the centrality of employee well-being as the driving force of sustainability economic and social aspects of companies.

The 'short week' at the factory begins

The company supplement introduces for the first time in the Group's Italian factories the short week. A highly innovative organization model of working times and management of production flexibility, designed to experience the factory with a new approach. There short week it reconciles in a sustainable and structural way the natural need for quality time of employees in managing their personal commitments, with the need for continuity and planning of company activities.

Workers who from next year will choose to join the new time model with "short week” they will be able to carve out twenty days a year for themselves and their personal needs, mostly on Fridays, covered largely by the company and residually by individual institutions, without impacting their salary. The innovation, which will initially be introduced on an experimental basis in some departments and production areas, is part of a dynamic company context and offers a further solution for designing the contours of one's working hours according to personal needs.

Welfare

With the new supplementary agreement, the welfare system also evolves and grows to make the social responsibility action towards employees and territories increasingly stronger. In fact, the new Welfare Fund for Conciliation is born, established to support initiatives for workers who can develop beyond the company perimeters to embrace wider communities, with particular attention to the most vulnerable in synergy with the territory.

The initiative aims to strengthen the sense of community and participation in collective well-being which have been the basis of Essilor's welfare spirit since its foundation.
