Getac continues to push the boundaries of innovation with the first rugged devices with built-in LiFi technology

Getac today announced that it has successfully integrated LiFi technology into its rugged devices as part of a new innovative project with Signify, a global leader in lighting

Getac works closely with Signify to develop next generation LiFi rugged solutions

At the forefront of LiFi innovation

Getac has been at the forefront of LiFi innovation for several years already, as the first manufacturer to design rugged devices with integrated LiFi through the use of external dongles. Today the company has taken another step forward, fully integrating the technology into its devices, thus achieving another first in the sector.

Getac is working on this project closely with Signify's Trulifi technology, with the aim of bringing LiFi technology to its customers. Further announcements about the devices themselves and their commercial availability will follow later.

Light Communication Alliance

Both Signify and Getac are part of the Light Communication Alliance (LCA), a community of industry leaders, researchers and innovators who believe in the power of Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) to transform the way organizations connect and communicate.

LCA is aware that progress in the field of light communication requires a collaborative approach of the entire ecosystem, through the involvement of all actors who work closely together to research, develop and implement an effective LiFi technology.

Signify Trulifi and rugged technology: The future of secure and reliable communication

LiFi (Light Fidelity) technology uses light to transmit data instead of radio frequency, as is the case with conventional technologies such as WiFi, LTE, 4G, 5G, etc.

This innovative approach offers multiple benefits over RF-based technologies, including extremely low latency, increased privacy and security, and superior connection quality, especially in environments where RF access is impossible.

The combination of these advantages and the reliability of Getac's rugged solutions opens the door to a wide range of powerful new applications in industries where professionals work in challenging environments every day. For example, LiFi's minimal cabling requirements allow defense professionals to install highly secure field communications networks in minutes. LiFi can be particularly beneficial in RF limited or denied environments, aiding digital transformation in industries such as manufacturing, where there are concerns that RF equipment could interfere with safety-critical operations

“Getac has long recognized the potential of LiFi technology to fundamentally change the way many organizations work and communicate,” said Amanda Ward, EMEA Senior Director, Technology & Services at Getac. “Through our partnership with Signify we are fully committed to designing and manufacturing and integrating innovative rugged LiFi solutions that will enable our customers to turn this potential into reality.”
