The web3 revolution continues next year with an annual exploration of what fashion will look like in virtual worlds, with MVFW attending the first Fashion Week recognized by the CFDA

Decentraland, the world's largest user-owned and operated social virtual world, today announced the return of Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW) to be held from 28 31 to March 2023 at the end of the spring/summer season on the virtual catwalks. Launched by Decentraland e UNXD extension, a leading immersive art and culture platform, in partnership with metaverses spatial e ABOUT US, the MVFW23 invites the global community to learn about the latest advances in interoperability and digital fashion of the metaverse.

inauguration

At the inaugural Metaverse Fashion Week 2022 earlier this year, Decentraland hosted over 108.000 people who explored the burgeoning world of wearables and digital fashion at the biggest digital fashion event of the year. Iconic luxury brands, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, Selfridges, Guo Pei, Paco Rabanne and dozens of other brands, have graced the metaverse with their renowned style and technological vision of digital fashion and a glimpse into how this will evolve new sector of the economy. During this year's MVFW, renowned fashion houses and new digital fashion brands combined over 165.000 free wearables.

Future Heritage

The theme of the MVFW23 is “Future Heritage" (future heritage), a challenge that intends to connect the new generation of creators and traditional fashion designers, showing the potential of fashion as a bridge between realities and worlds. The event sheds light on today's fashion industry, proposing a diversity of aesthetics across metaverses, linking innovation with tradition and looking to the great fashion moments of the past to shape the future.

“Metaverse Fashion Week is a pivotal moment in digital fashion where brands and consumers can get a glimpse into the future of fashion. The MVFW is a direct extension of UNXD's mission to bridge luxury between the real world and the metaverse. After our successful first season with Decentraland, we are excited to expand the MVFW platform together to include more metaverses.", said Shashi Menon, co-founder and CEO of UNXD.

Interoperability: creators and pioneers who make it possible

Decentraland will partner with Spatial and OVER to bring the next generation of interoperability to life in a free and open metaverse. Just as New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week are not limited to one type of aesthetic or one type of fabric, MVFW expands to invite digital fashion makers to consider the infinite potential of the interoperable metaverses in which can carry one wearable to another with ease.

What to expect:
  • Announced on Friday, December 2, at Megan Kaspar's event co-hosted by MVFW'23 and MIAFW, the Miami Fashion Week 2023 will be the first globally recognized physical fashion week to participate in Metaverse Fashion Week with a special activation and runway shows on the rooftop of L'Atelier developed by Metaverse Group in the Decentraland Luxury Fashion District along with participation on other cross Metaverse platforms.
  • With its collaborations with high fashion names, Phygicode presents itself as a consortium specialized in luxury and hybrid solutions for fashion, bringing partners and brands to the event.
  • Threedium will return with its groundbreaking 3D/AR Commerce Engine powering its luxury mall, offering brands a connected commerce infrastructure to create and share custom wearables and Augmented Reality experiences.
  • Decentralized commerce protocol Boson will expand its stake by allowing brands to sell physical and phygital items in the metaverse as redeemable NFTs. Once tokenized, Boson's redeemable NFTs can be traded, held, gifted, or redeemed for the physical item.
  • DRESSX, the largest metacloset™ for digital apparel, AR looks and NFT fashion, is an official partner of the event and will engage brands eager to explore their unique AR components.
  • Curator David Cash and his Cash Labs team will return to present and produce experiences for a range of established fashion brands and exciting new digital native designers across Decentraland and beyond.
  • In addition to Cash, in order to support the growing creator ecosystem, Decentraland is establishing an advisory board of curators to select the designers who will participate in the next edition of the event, including Institute of Digital Fashion (IODF), Fashion3 of MAD Global, House of Web3 and The Manufacturer. With the help of these curators, a new mall will be built that will showcase the new horizons of digital fashion and disruptive activations.

New features and activations:
  • Decentraland now makes it easier than ever for brands to participate and build in the metaverse with the introduction of self-service tools to create wearables and emoticons, and with the new feature that allows brands to “lease” land for specific periods of time. This facilitates easy and reliable access to land through Decentraland's smart contract marketplace.
  • Powered by the Decentraland Foundation and the Luxury NFT Market UNXD, MVFW Lux will showcase luxury fashion houses in a stunning setting housed in the Luxury Fashion District (Metaverse Group) and adjacent shopping mall. Experiences will include runway shows, exclusive wearable collections, immersive 3D/AR web experiences, pop-up shops, the introduction of the first physical fashion week in the metaverse, and a closing performance.
  • The novelty of the 2023 program is MVFW Neo, designed to support and celebrate the new generation of digital designers. In collaboration with innovative companies in the digital field, Decentraland has selected a number of new digital fashion designers and emerging physical stylists to develop their work and projects within the Web3 space.
  • Not only will new designers be showcased, but MVFW's first official supermodel will be introduced: Tangpoko, a member of the DCL community deeply immersed in the fashion and pop culture of the Web3 space, will be this season's main supermodel.
  • Additionally, MVFW will feature a runway show with Barth, the winner of season two of “The Hype” on HBO Max. As part of the Next Generation initiative, the event will feature an exclusive DCL wearable collection created by the season two winner at his debut within the Metaverse.
