Founded in 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah by CEO Mark Pittman, Blyncsy applies vision and artificial intelligence to the analysis of commonly available imagery to identify road network maintenance issues. Pittman originally conceived the company's idea while stuck at a traffic light, believing there had to be a way to combine “real-time” condition data and innovative technologies to help transportation departments become more efficient.
Blyncsy AI services replace costly and time-consuming manual data collection efforts, reducing the need for personnel, specialized vehicles, or field hardware, and improving transportation owner-operator awareness and timely mitigation of road conditions. Blyncsy detects over 50 different road safety issues, including the actual location of active work zones.
“Blyncsy is committed to applying the latest artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to benefit transportation networks. The agreement with Bentley will only strengthen the value for our users and together we will provide even more insightful asset analysis to transport owners, to support the drivers of today and tomorrow.”
“Safety is our first priority and operational efficiency comes next. We depend on real-time data, such as the information we receive from Blyncsy, to proactively manage the highway system to be as safe and reliable as possible,” said Ed Sniffen, director of the Hawaii Department of Transportation. “The Hawaii Department of Transportation welcomes technology that allows us to operate as productively as possible. Blyncsy provides us with weekly reports with graphs and photos illustrating the condition of the guardrails, roads and vegetation, allowing us to prioritize our resources to address system needs.”
“Blyncsy has come to our attention for potential participation in a subsequent venture capital investment round. However, we were so convinced of the relevance of its innovation that we proceeded with its complete acquisition in order to be able to scale it quickly and capillary. We expect investments in widespread asset analytics to further drive the use of infrastructure digital twins.”
Blyncsy to adopt Bentley's iTwin platform for immersive integration with infrastructure owners' design and simulation models, while Bentley will incorporate and market Blyncsy's AI services within its emerging mobility digital twin offerings .
The acquisition was supported for Blyncsy by Ignatious Growth Capital and Advisory. Blyncsy's investors include: Peterson Ventures, Doug Wells, Elemental Excelerator, Park City Angel Network, OakHouse Partners and CEAS Investments.

The roads are worn out by the vehicles that drive along them. Different types of vehicles and heavier vehicles wear out the roads faster.
