Holden.ai StoryLab: research, dissemination and training on generative artificial intelligence and synthetic media

What we will be able to do with artificial intelligence depends on the type of natural intelligence that we will apply to its use.

Storytelling is one of the most human gestures that exist, our curiosity leads us to ask ourselves what are the possible synergies between human and machine, when it comes to stories. 

Holden.ai StoryLab was born with this goal: it is a laboratory and an observatory created within the Scuola Holden which deals with research, dissemination and training, as well as organizing events on the phenomenon of artificial generative intelligences and on the so-called "synthetic media", with particular attention to their applications to the world of storytelling, communication and creativity.

Holden.ai StoryLab

Directed by Simone Arcagni and Riccardo Milanesi, and born thanks to the partnership of Rai Cinema and the Transmedia Lab of the La Sapienza University of Rome, Holden.ai StoryLab will collect news, information, images, videos and other materials. Apart from proposing itself as a gathering place, it will also be a starting point for the dissemination of contents declined in different formats through workshops, lessons, courses, speeches, talks.

The Workshop will be organized in three parts:

• Observatory: a team of researchers and creatives, led by Simone Arcagni and Riccardo Milanesi, to observe change, study it and do research;
• Dissemination: proposing transversal events and lessons to educate new creatives in the conscious and effective use of the new means of Artificial Intelligence;
• Practice: I'Artificial intelligence it will be applied to the world of storytelling and creativity, in partnership with Rai Cinema and the Transmedia Lab – Sapienza University of Rome.

This new Scuola Holden laboratory, transversal to all areas of storytelling, is proposed as a pioneering point of reference, in Italy, within a transformation process already underway in the world of storytelling and contemporary humanities.

Study of Artificial Intelligence

For Academy, the three-year degree course of Scuola Holden, Holden.ai StoryLab plan the course of Instability of the third year. This discipline interprets writing as an always open job, which comes to terms with the constant transformation of the writer's thoughts and the world around him, a movement of rewriting and adaptation useful for making the most of a situation in which perpetual change. The study ofArtificial intelligence it cannot pass through traditional theoretical knowledge, which ages too quickly to observe this phenomenon in real time, therefore in order to tell its evolution it is necessary to look at it not as an object to be analysed, but as a tool to be used. First dates

The first project in the pipeline of Holden.ai StoryLab è a multiplatform serial project, written by a team of screenwriters from Holden and developed in collaboration with Rai Cinema, to be implemented with the support ofartificial intelligence which will be presented in September in a prestigious context.

The first appointment scheduled for this year, however, is on July 13 at the Videocittà Festival in Rome, festival of vision and digital culture, where Simone Arcagni, Riccardo Milanesi, Demetra Birtone, Holden communication office and Carlo Rodomonti, strategic and digital marketing manager of Rai Cinema, will speak at panel "Artificial Intelligence and synthetic media: the new frontiers of storytelling and creativity".

Il October 6 at Scuola Holden then there will be the meeting Artificial visions: Telling stories (with) AI, In which Simone Arcagni and Riccardo Milanesi will present the laboratory together with Giovanni Abitante, one of the most famous Italian filmmakers who use Artificial Intelligence.
